Tampa Designation of Healthcare Surrogate

health care surrogateA Designation of Healthcare Surrogate allows the Principal to designate someone else to make health care decisions when the Principal is not able to do so.  The Healthcare Surrogate does not have authority to act until an attending physician and a second physician determines the Principal lacks the capacity to make informed health care decisions.  This is different than a Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare, in which the agent can make health care decisions even though the Principal may not completely lack capacity.
